Call for Papers

One of the requirements of the age of globalization is the global extension of cross-cultural and intellectual communication, which itself promotes interaction and cooperation among thinkers in different parts of the world. The searching, conscious eyes of the present day man has directed his attention to other intellectual areas, and has intensified his desire to achieve a deep understanding of other people's ideas and seeking solutions to man's problems.

On the one hand, the global extension of communications has exposed man to new problems, which in turn require him to explore the principles of the new world and the life in it. On the other hand, theoretical developments in other intellectual areas have introduced man, who inevitably has to engage in active interaction with them, to new ways of seeking solutions to his old problems. It is the need for such explorations, which underlines the role of philosophy in the present world and extends it to all the various dimensions of human life. The increase in the number of books and journals of philosophy, conferences on philosophy, and philosophical associations, together with the branching of the discipline into new areas, and serious attention to interdisciplinary research involving philosophy and other sciences, all clearly mark the expansion of philosophical thinking and the present human need for it. Such attention to philosophy not only has turned the interaction among the thinkers in various areas of philosophy into a necessity, and encouraged mutual appreciation of the ideas of other activists of philosophy, but has as well encouraged self-criticism from the perspective of others. The reason is that criticism and analysis of the influential ideas from the perspective of others, not only leads to development in various intellectual areas, but also provides grounds for the emergence and flourishing of new and more extensive ideas.

Philosophical thinking in Iran, with all its long tradition, dynamism and vigor, has pioneered a great move in philosophical thinking throughout the world. Iranian thinkers have theorized in most areas of philosophy, and inspired the greatest amounts of joy, innovation, and movement as compared to other thinkers of the world of Islam, so much that one of the most significant features of Iranian thought is its overtone of philosophy. This has turned Iran into the center of Islamic philosophical thinking and new theories.

Moreover, in the age of globalization, the hegemony of Western thought and its philosophical approach has exposed many important intellectual areas to rethinking and re-examination. The requirements of the present global community and the inescapable influence of Western thought have attached importance to exploration of the principles of Western philosophy, which has attracted the attention of other communities to the analysis of the ideas of Western philosophers.

In such circumstances, the Journal of Hikmat va Falsafeh (Wisdom and Philosophy) attempts to provide appropriate grounds for presenting two major world philosophical trends, namely the Islamic and the Western, for Islamic and Western philosophers to introduce their new ideas. The results of the encounter, interaction and comparison of the two will undoubtedly contribute to the development of world philosophy.

Hikmat (Wisdom), as a significant feature of Islamic philosophy, and philosophy, as exploration of the foundations of human thought, constitute the two major themes of the Journal of Hikmat va Falsafeh (Wisdom and Philosophy), which welcomes articles on any new approaches within any of the two trends. What is of great importance to the Journal is presentation of philosophical theories, particularly those of the past and present, formulated as a result of philosophizing and leading to new ideas in the field. Articles presenting collections or combinations of ideas obviously fall beyond the Journal's area of interest.

The Journal of Hikmat va Falsafeh (Wisdom and Philosophy) welcomes any article on the branches of Western and Islamic philosophies, and comparative philosophy in particular. The Journal publishes articles in both English and Persian. So English articles about Islamic philosophy and Persian articles about Western philosophy are welcome. This contributes not to a unidirectional transfer of Western thought to the Iranian society, but to the exchange of Islamic and Western philosophical thinking.

The bilingual Journal of Hikmat va Falsafeh (Wisdom and Philosophy) is  expected to inspire a lively and dynamic dialogue between the Islamic and philosophy and the Western one, and contribute to a constructive interaction  among people of the present time.
