ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

It is a pleasure to extend appreciation to the outstanding teams of scholars from Thailand and China whose interaction was central to elaborate the development of this volume.

The teams from China come from The Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences and Fudan University in continuation of the series of conferences with The Council for Research in Values and Philosophy (RVP) extending over almost 10 years. Over that time they have explored modernization, technological and economic development, and civil society. In the present volume they look to the bases of the value pattern which undergirds the whole in this time of change.

Assumption University (ABAC) in Bangkok extended outstanding hospitality on the occasion, organizing not one but two colloquia in order to assure the broadest participation for the exploration of the topic and for the contributions of the Chinese scholars. For this special gratitude is extended to the President, Martin Komolmas, and to Professor Kirti Bunchua who has done so much for the development of philosophy in Thailand and for dialogue between cultures.

Special appreciation is extended as well to the Ethics Journal Online and to who have permitted the inclusion of the papers of Professors Lu Xiaohe and Andrew Wozniki.
