Acknowledgements
We wish to express gratitude to the authors of the papers in this volume and its companion volume in Chinese. They have brilliantly introduced not only the issues of ethics in Christian philosophy and Chinese philosophy, but have built a bridge between the two in the spirit of Matteo Ricci, who first introduced modern Western learning to China 400 years ago.
The present volume is constituted of the English papers delivered at the conference held at Fu Jen University: "Philosophical Perspectives in the Third Millennium: Dialogue between Philosophy and Chinese Culture." The companion volume, constituted of the papers delivered in Chinese at the same conference, is being published by Fu Jen University.
We wish to thank Fu Jen University in Taipei for sponsoring this major event; especially Professor Paschal Ting, Chairwoman of its Philosophy Department and her team of students and administrators, who worked so diligently on this project; Nancy Graham and Paul Foster who have proofread the manuscript; Hu Yeping who has set the final copy; and Zhu Fenghua for bringing it through the press to completion and distribution.
