ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
Gratitude is owed first of all to the authors who worked hard and long to produce this excellent volume. Its combination of depth of insight and devotion to a people, along with a wise sensibility to national and international currents, makes it one of the most outstanding volumes in this series and a most valuable contribution to the search of the peoples of the Balkans for their road into the future. Upon their success the peace of many peoples will depend.
The project was undertaken by a team of Bulgarian philosophers led by Asen Davidov and Plamen Makariev. It was strongly support by the editorial assistance of Andrew Blasko for whom Bulgaria is in a sense an adopted home.
The Univeresity of Sofia provided a context for this work.
The manuscript was copy-edited by Nancy Graham and brought into final form by Hu Yeping.
To all is owed a debt of deep gratitude by all who will draw upon this volume in their own search for a progressive identity at this turn of the millennia.
