Invitation to an International Conference

Building an Ethical Culture East and West

Hunan Normal University, Changsha, P.R. China

(near Chairman Mao's hometown)

July 20-21, 2019

Theme

The East and the West have different ethical cultures, but the differences are relative, for the two kinds of ethical cultures can be integrated and enriched and complemented. In the era of globalization, the East and the West should learn from each other, especially in the field of ethical culture. Is it possible to build an ethical culture reflecting both eastern and western perspectives? It may be very difficult. However, each of us can make effort to contribute our insights and experience to fulfill the goal. We all live in one world and have common concerns about our society and the future of humanity. We are responsible to form ethical human beings and to develop moral values and to construct ethical cultures.

The following will be the special focus of the conference:

1. Eastern and Western ethical traditions

2. Chinese ethics and Chinese ethical culture

3. Western ethics and Western ethical culture

4. Foundations for ethical cultures

5. Communications of international ethical cultures

6. Moral responsibility in social life

7. The idea of common destiny for humanity
