MORAL EDUCATION FOR RESPONSIBILITY IN SOCIAL LIFE

Three research teams, each working for two years through a process combining discussion, personal research, writing and redrafting, developed a series of studies entitled: Foundations of Moral Education and Character Development with volumes in philosophy, psychology and pedagogy respectively. The Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development distributed a 50 page summary to 16,000 school superintendents. This is the closest approximation to a policy paper on moral education for public school systems. The Phi Delta Kappa, a teacher's organization, has relied upon the same research for a booklet sent to some 250,000 classrooms in the United States.

The RVP has co-hosted international conferences on the subject of moral education for responsibility in social life in Caracas, Lima and Tokyo. It has extended the series with volumes from all parts of the world, including: The Social Context and Values: Perspectives of the Americas; Love as the Foundation of Moral Education and Character Development; Chinese Foundations for Moral Education and Character Development; Values in Philippine Culture and Education; and Values and Education in Romania Today.
